Role Overview

The Government Relations Manager will lead federal advocacy strategy and execution in the United States, shaping policy outcomes that impact digital media, streaming rights, copyright, AI-generated content, data privacy, and platform regulation.

This role sits within the Global Public Policy team and is primarily responsible for building and managing relationships with Congress, federal agencies, and key policy stakeholders in Washington, DC.


Key Responsibilities

Federal Government Relations (Primary Focus)

  • Lead day-to-day federal lobbying strategy across Congress and relevant agencies (e.g., U.S. Copyright Office, FTC, FCC, DOJ)
  • Build and maintain relationships with congressional offices, committee staff, and federal regulators
  • Track and analyze legislative and regulatory developments affecting digital media, music licensing, and platform governance
  • Develop and execute advocacy campaigns in coordination with internal legal, policy, and communications teams
  • Draft policy positions, briefing materials, testimony prep, and legislative language where appropriate

Policy & Issue Expertise

  • Digital copyright and music licensing frameworks (DMCA, performance rights, streaming royalties)
  • Platform regulation and content moderation policy
  • Data privacy, AI/ML policy implications for creative industries
  • Antitrust and competition policy in tech and media markets
  • Creator economy policy and artist compensation frameworks

Coalition & Industry Engagement

  • Represent the company in industry associations and coalitions (music, tech, and digital media)
  • Partner with external stakeholders including labels, publishers, artist advocacy groups, and technology peers
  • Support joint advocacy initiatives on shared policy priorities

Strategic Communications (Aligned)

  • Collaborate with communications and legal teams on policy messaging and external positioning
  • Prepare executives for Hill meetings, hearings, and public policy forums

Qualifications

Required

  • 5–12 years of experience in federal government relations, public policy, or lobbying
  • Proven track record working with U.S. Congress and/or federal regulatory agencies
  • Experience in tech, media, telecommunications, entertainment, or intellectual property policy strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of federal legislative and regulatory processes
  • Existing relationships on Capitol Hill or within relevant agencies
  • Ability to translate complex policy issues into clear business implications
  • Bachelor’s degree required (advanced degree in law, public policy, or related field preferred)

Preferred

  • Experience in digital media, streaming, music licensing, or entertainment law/policy
  • Prior work in a corporate government affairs team or major trade association
  • Familiarity with AI policy and its impact on creative industries
  • Experience supporting executive-level engagement with policymakers
  • Strong coalition-building experience across competing industry stakeholders
